Would it be safe to surgically remove a mole ON the lip?

ok so i have a mole right ON the center of my bottom lip. i really want it removed because it bothers me very much. people always think that there's some type of food or something stuck on my lip. the mole is flat on my lip & it seems to keep on getting bigger. so is it safe to remove it & if so, will it leave a scar? please and thanks (:
