Too much make up for a date at 16 ?

Too much! You don't want to look fake, but you want to look good! I have the same problem. I find that Almay All Naturals foundation works well for me! Maybe add some Covergirl True Mineral powder to add a final touch. Some soft pink blush, maybe from Mac? If not, then try some pink blush from your local drugstore, like CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, etc. Also, you want to make your eye makeup look natural and not flashy. It's a date, NOT going out to a club! I would go for natural colors, like a brown, pink, or light lavender. Add some black eyeliner to the water line (I use Almay), and some mascara! I would suggest using Covergirl Exact Eyelights, because it makes your eyes way brighter! Good luck! Most importantly, just be yourself, and do whatever makes you feel pretty. DON'T wear makeup for anyone else but you!
