I just found a mouse in my house?

it was grey and had a long snout. NASTY. anyways, i read that they are nocturnal, if so, why did my sons find him running around my family room this morning?? 9am???????????????????????????? now i heard, ifyou see ONE mouse your loaded with them. is that true??? i am so grossed out its not even funny.
