Does it look or sound ridiculous to sing a male version of a female song or a guy sing a female song?

Honestly, everytime I watch female performers sing a male song, especially when they up it a notch and "own it [song]!", I just applaud them...like wowww. The sound and range female singers make with their vocal cords (e.g. Jewel, Aguilera, Bada, etc.) are pretty amazing, warm, enticing, smooth, powerful, soothing. However, when a guy sing a female song, sing it in a female voice or not; or sing it in a manly way some people might say "you're gay?" When Michael Jackson had this song You are not Alone, his voice was somewhat feminine. But he wasn't considered gay because of the song, however; he was considered gay because of this child molestation acts branded on him. Okay guys, I'm open with your comments; but please share something meaningful or decent to say as a human should. You know better. Don't make me think that I'm not the only person in the world that have a question like this.
